Sector 36 Movie Review 2024, Vikrant Massey, Deepak Dobriyal shine in Netflix film

Sector 36 Movie Review 2024 : Sector 36 review: Vikrant Massey does a great job of making his love interest believable with his 360-degree transformation from an honest 12th fail student, his flattering smile and creepy banter hiding his true nature: this is not the man you would want to see waiting for you on a dark street. The serial murders that took place in 2005-2006 in Nithari, an unpleasant colony in Noida, were so gruesome that your blood froze just reading about them.

The accidental discovery of a human hand in a drain led to the discovery of several body parts in a water tank, as well as buried bodies in the premises of a businessman named Maninder Pandher, whose house servant Surinder Koli confessed to the rape and murder of about 20 children (he would sexually assault them, and then dismember them in his bathroom).

Both men were jailed and sentenced to death, but both were released in 2023 for ‘lack of evidence’. Those who followed the case were convinced that justice was not done: the children’s desperate parents felt completely let down by the state and a justice system that favours the rich and ignores the poor.

Sector 36 Movie Review 2024 ‘Sector 36’ is ostensibly based on the Nithari massacre, but its initial narrative falls short of claiming ‘authenticity and accuracy’. Names have been changed. Nithari becomes Seelampur/Shahdara, Pandher becomes Bassi and Surinder becomes Prem. The cops under investigation for ignoring the complaints of the missing children’s parents are here transformed into men who have a change of heart and start taking things seriously with the ostensible help of their colleagues.

Sector 36 Movie Review 2024 The film is framed as a cat-and-mouse game between the psychopath Prem (Vikrant Massey) and Inspector Ram Charan Pandey (Deepak Dobriyal), and in the first half, it succeeds in creating fear and disgust while watching the creation of a monster. Massey, with a 360-degree transformation from an honest 12th fail student, tries to make his Prem believable, his flattering smile and creepy pranks hiding his true nature: this is not a man you would want to see waiting for you on a dark street.

But this comes across precisely at the point when he is allowed a long rant that also serves as a confession, with the fear building diminishing as he progresses. Darshan Jariwala, playing Pandey’s senior, with old ties with Bassi, looks like a standard movie cop, trying to save his life.

Akarsh Khurana as the suspect Bassi could have been even better if his character hadn’t been played so carefully: he’s clearly a pedophile, but he’s let off too lightly. It’s Deepak Dobriyal, the way he takes aim at the suspect after he’s forced to lift his eyelids, that makes you want to watch.

Sector 36 Movie Review 2024 Deepak Dobriyal too is all over the screen with his shocked and surprised expressions while Prem pulls off his devilish antics. But what the two actors display during that long climactic sequence is nothing short of heartwarming.

The writing limits the sequence to an encounter that borders on comedy and goes towards making light of the heinous acts of a despicable deranged person. So, the fault clearly lies more with the script than the actors.

Massey’s interpretation of the mentally ill Prem oscillates between horrifying and funny. The one behavioural trait that has been given to the character is a raucous laugh that he does whenever he thinks he has cracked a joke or finds something that amuses him.

The humour here is an odd choice, especially because it is not deep enough. The same loose, sarcastic tone affects the character played by Dobriyal. The situations Inspector Pandey finds himself in and the jokes he makes often don’t fit the film’s serious subject matter. He is by no means the only criminal in this film, which is so chaotic that it’s hard to call it a hard crime story.
