Rawalpindi in overdrive How Nahid Rana : New Delhi: In a recent interaction with Bangladesh bowling coach Andre Adams, he urged everyone to be patient with the new bowling sensation Nahid Rana. The 21-year-old young pacer from Chapainawabganj has caught the eye of the city after consistently bowling at 150 kmph during the Test series against Pakistan and has all the attention on him ahead of the series against India. “He [Rana] is very solid. He is not someone who gets excited by praise, not from my experience with him. He is always trying to get better and his goal is to get better and he loves to bowl well and he bowled really well,” Adams told Cricbuzz.

“He is working hard to get stronger. I think young fast bowlers need to get stronger. He exerts a lot of strength, so he should know how to manage himself and he works very hard in the gym. Since Nathan has come, he has made the team faster and fitter. It is a big improvement. Nahid knows what he has to achieve,” he said.

“When you are fast and use the bouncer you should use it. The good thing with Nahid Rana is that there is no drop in his pace and whenever he bowls he bowls fast and that is great,” he added. “If you look at the first Test [against Pakistan] he was not that accurate and is learning to be more accurate. He has only played three Test matches and you can’t expect him to bowl like Glenn McGrath after three Test matches, but we want to see him improve.

” Adams said he was also impressed with the transformation of Hasan Mahmud, who was initially described as a talented white-ball player, into a red-ball player and credited the local coaches for the transformation. “I think it’s because of the local coach because he works with the local coaches more than me at the moment,” Adams said. “We had some good conversations with Hasan when it comes to game time and it was in the World Cup.

We see him as a bowler of very high caliber and we see him as a world-class bowler. When someone can be world-class he must keep working hard and the only way you can transform from a white-ball bowler to a red-ball bowler is to work hard. He is a very good athlete and he is also smart and wants to get better,” he said.

Adams said Taskin Ahmed struggled in the first innings against Pakistan, which marked his return to Test cricket after some time off due to health problems, but gradually he got back into his rhythm. Many feel Taskin needs to be managed well as he is the key bowler for Bangladesh across formats.

“It is important to manage the workload for everyone coming back from injury, not just Taskin. The thing with Taskin is that he works hard in training to be ready. “Bowling in training is one thing, bowling in a game is another thing and so he might have had a bit of a setback because of the heat of bowling three spells in the first innings and we knew that would happen and it was no surprise,” he said. “The only way to get used to something is to keep doing it.

” Adams said they would miss left-arm pacer Shoriful Islam in the two-match Test series as he has been rested due to injury, but said he was hopeful he would be back in the squad ahead of the T20s.

Shoriful was not included in the 16-member squad for the tour of India after suffering a groin injury ahead of the second Test against Pakistan. The left-arm pacer is currently doing his rehabilitation and on Tuesday (September 17) bowled a few overs in a match-scenario practice session, which included players who could be included in the T20 squad for the India series.

“I think every team loves a left-arm fast bowler and Shoriful has been very good for us and he was very good in the first innings (against Pakistan) and he built pressure and swung the ball. He keeps his energy level throughout his spells and that’s a pleasure to watch,” Adams said.

“Shoriful is working hard to get fit and get better and get stronger and that’s all you have to do. Every team loves to have a left-arm fast bowler. We would have loved to have Shoriful in the mix for selection and so now he will probably be fit ahead of the T20 internationals,” he said.
